When should I hire a bookkeeper?

This is another question I hear a lot – and while there is no blanket answer I can give, I would recommend you consider the below questions:
When I think about managing finances, how do I feel?
Really?! You’re asking about my feelings right out of the gates?? Yes. Sorry to blindside you, but honestly this very-subjective-only-answerable-by-you-and-maybe-your-closest-friend question says more than possibly any of the below.
We all have different histories with money, varying confidence in our organizational skills, and even desire to look closely at all. That’s ok! There are so many things to master in life, if you feel like it stresses you out to even contemplate managing your business finances, it’s probably a good time to look for a bookkeeper.
How organized am I?
Managing your bookkeeping is as much about organization as it is about money. It involves keeping track of logins to banks, credit cards, and payment processors. It means creating and regularly updating a monthly routine of reviewing transactions, downloading statements, reconciling them, and THEN getting to the fun part (for some of us) of report review.
Does this light you up? Yeah, me too! But if it fills you with more dread than excitement, it’s probably a good time to look for a bookkeeper.
How could I spend my time if I delegated bookkeeping?
Even if you are highly organized and psyched about managing your finances, many business owners hope to get to a point where they’re so busy serving clients that they don’t have time to touch every transaction that comes through their bank feed.
How much time are your spending doing your bookkeeping or stressing about it? Would you be able to pick up more clients if that was one more thing off your plate?
Are you a nutritionist, coach, personal trainer, or outdoor industry small business owner who sees yourself in these questions and wants to talk more about delegating your bookkeeping? Let's talk!
I’m not at all afraid to tell prospective clients that it is not the right time for them or that we are not a good fit 😊
